Calling all sports fans! Located in the Civic Complex, overlooking the St. Lawrence River in Downtown Cornwall, is a treasure chest of sports heritage waiting to be discovered.
The Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame features sports in the community of Cornwall and recognizes the accomplishments of the athletes who worked to promote their individual sports.
Every 2 years, nominations for induction are accepted. Inductees represent a wide range of sports. Some of the more well-known athletes include:
• hockey star Newsy Lalonde, who played in the first ever NHL game
• Moe Racine who played 201 games with the Rough Riders
• Hockey legend Cyril Denneny who played 15 professional seasons from 1914 to 1929
• and hero Orval Tessier Orval who guided the Cornwall Royals to the Memorial Cup championship in 1972.
• Famed female hocky player Lori Dupuis, who was an Olympic Gold medalist in women’s hockey is also a member of this Sports Hall of Fame
